Lübeck Pub Guide
Bars - Brewpubs - Beer gardens - Beer shops

Introduction
This is a short guide to beer pubs in Lübeck.

I've wanted to visit Lübeck for ages. It sounds a beautiful city. That I can have this guide without ever having been within 50 km of the place, is thanks to Bob Fenley. He generously provided me with all the details and the photographs.

Im Alten Zolln Lübeck interiorFormer customs post, dating from 1589. Saved from redevelopment in the 1980s. Three separate drinking areas, all with wooden panels and benches. A gem.

This is what Lars Marius Garshol has to say about the pub:
"It really is a gem. They seem to have regular live concerts. Big outdoor seating area on the pavement in summer. Menu is accurate, but it seems that the "after 20:00" beers you can only get on the first floor inside, and not outside or on the ground floor."

Traditional pub with friendly clientele.

This is what Lars Marius Garshol has to say about it:
"Interesting place. Very local, with a huge bearded and long-haired bartender+cook (same person) who is friendly and helpful, even if he at first sight looks rather rough. Plays Irish pub music and old rock, quite nice. Dark, small, well-worn, and definitely smoky. A surprisingly nice place, once you get used to it. A lot more UK/Ireland-oriented than the vast majority of German pubs."

Buthmann's

Lübeck.

Number of draught beers: 3
Number of bottled beers: 12
Regular draught beers:
Food: Snacks €, meals €. Beer €2.80-3.00 for 0.4l.
Asuggestion of Lars Marius Garshol:
"A bit more refined than If, it looks like an old konditorei turned into a pub, and seems very much like a place for locals, with a stammtisch where the old waitress drinks schnapps and smokes with the regulars. No music, and quiet in the early evening. It's much darker in there than the last photo suggests. The second photo has the menu. They also had Einbecker Mai Ur-bock when I was there (in May). The ökobiers are Neumarkter Lammsbräu. Never was able to establish what the weizens were, since the waitress didn't know they had a menu, and no idea about half of what was on it. In the end one of the regulars found the menus for her, but by then we felt we'd embarrassed her enough, so we didn't ask to see them."
